He holds an MSc in Mining Engineering (Engineering Geology) from Delft University of Technology. From 1989 to 1996, he worked at Geo‑Delft (now Deltares) in strategic research and geotechnical engineering. In 1993 he became Head of the Physical Modelling Group, leading advanced modelling facilities, including one of the world largest geotechnical centrifuges. Since joining Haskoning in 1996, he has supported major projects in the Netherlands and internationally, and served as Director of the Advisory Group Infrastructure & Geotechnical Engineering in Nijmegen (2012–2019). He chaired the Dutch National Group of the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) (2008–2014) and served on the board of the Geotechnical Engineering section of KIVI (Royal Netherlands Institute of Engineers) (2010–2016). He has lectured in TU Delft's Geo‑Engineering Master's programme since 2006 and chaired several Dutch research committees on finite element modelling (PLAXIS), geotechnical risk management (Geo‑Impulse), flood resilience (dikes and levees), and railway embankment stability assessment (RESET). He also teaches in the Dutch postgraduate continuing education programme at PAO Technique and Management (PAOTM). Appointed Leading Professional at Haskoning in 2021, he accelerates knowledge development, strengthens geotechnical strategy, and enhances project excellence through mentoring and innovation.
