Our Commitment to a Greener Conference

Sustainability is at the heart of Soft Soils 2026. We aim to make this event as climate-responsible as possible - from venue and catering to travel and materials.

What We Compensate

We calculate our total footprint per participant by including:

  • Travel to and from the conference
  • Catering and food production during the event
  • Energy use of the venue and AV equipment
  • Printed materials and merchandise
  • Accommodation for invited speakers

These together represent about 30–80 tonnes of CO₂ for a three-day conference.
To compensate, we invite every participant to offset their share directly during registration.

How We Calculate CO₂ and Trees

Based on average travel distances and local energy use, we use these benchmarks:

  • Short distance (train/car; ~0.1 tonne CO₂ + Event catering, venue, and materials: € 7.50
  • European flight: ~0.3 tonne CO₂ + Event catering, venue, and materials: € 22.50
  • Intercontinental flight: ~0.6 tonne CO₂ + Event catering, venue, and materials: € 42.00
